This is a fundraiser for Sara Ghassan al Zaq and her family in Gaza.

Sara is a newlywed and a new mother to her two-month-old daughter, Massa. She and her husband, Fadi Abo Ghanemaa, had a beautiful home that they only had they joy of living in for a few months before the all-out seige on Gaza began and their home was destroyed.

They now live in an apartment along with Sara’s younger brother, Mohammed, her uncle’s family, and her grandparents. In total, they are 18 people living in one apartment. Mohammed let me know today that they only thing they have to eat is bread, nothing else.

Our fundraiser will help provide them with one month’s worth of bare necessities: shelter, flour, food, water, diapers, the ability to charge their devices. For a month’s worth of the above mentioned, it costs approximately $5000 right now for Sara’s family in the Al-Rimal area of central Gaza.

However unbelievable, the extra $3000 will be to cover the exorbitant fees that are being charged right now for all Gazans when they go to take cash out of their accounts. They are charged somewhere in the area of a 45% fee on whatever they withdraw! We hope to be able to provide the family with the full amount they need and not have to suffer the loss of the fees themselves.

Our hope is that everyone who sees this gives whatever they are capable of, big or small, and that we can help Sara’s family survive for at least this next month. They are truly counting on us.

Updates will be provided about their family as communications are available.

Hello all! I’m sorry to send two updates back-to-back but they are very different and I wanted them each to be seen.

Sara messaged me this morning with two pieces of concerning news:

1.Masa has fallen ill.

Sara’s words: “Masa is very sick and suffering from fever, severe cough, high temperature, and diarrhea, which forced me to take her to the hospital. There is a virus spreading here due to the lack of cleaning supplies and the absence of medicine.”

2. Sara’s father has been injured.

I am waiting for an update from Sara but she told me that her father “was injured in the head by the quadcopter.”

Please keep them both in your thoughts/prayers!

Yesterday, I received messages from Sara with the very welcome news that they had been able to acquire a whole package of diapers and a number of containers of baby milk for Masa!! I asked her if they had been able to purchase any meat or vegetables and Sara’s response was: “There are no meat or vegetables in Gaza, and if there is any, its price is very hight.”

I am incredibly happy to inform you all that Sara and her family have finally received the funds we have crowdsourced for them so far!! There was a hiccup in the transfer due to a mistake in a bank account number but it was finally figured out and the funds are now accessible to them!

I recently told Sara that this is NOT OVER!! We’ve only barely reached half of our goal. And remember, of the $3014 that was sent, the bank will take almost $1500 So, please, please, please – continue to share, amplify, and donate if possible. While the campaign is not considered “live” by Chuffed anymore, it continues to accept donations so please be as generous as you can to continue to help this family.

Attached is a video of Massa that Sara sent me just this morning. She is getting so big!
